Congratulations to our 2013 Volleychiefs!  We appreciate all of the hard work that was put in during the summer and at tryouts.  We are looking forward to a very competitive season!

Youth Camp

We succesfully hosted a total of 87 youth campers last week!  Our goal is to expose them to basic skill knowledge, challenge them with development drills and encourage them to improve.  We also hope they walk away excited to become a Volleychief in the future.  We are already looking forward to next years camp with adjustments to be made for the skill levels and high numbers.  We hope to have the girls back!

Summer Dates

Our Summer Conditioning and Camp Schedule can be found on the Volleychiefs Facebook page under files!  Please note, athletes will have the week after school gets out to relax.  Then, starting Tuesday, May 28th and Wednesday, May 29th we will begin the second Body Weight training session at 3pm.  These date changes are due to Memorial Day.

Farewell from Coach Downs :-(

I would like to take this opportunity as we welcome a new head coach to the Volleychief program to thank everyone who has supported our program over its long history.

I have made the decision to retire from coaching after 25 years at various levels to pursue opportunities in the next phase of my life.  I am so thankful and feel  truly blessed to have been a part of the Volleychief program.

The Volleychief program as started with Coach Schuble  has been a program rich in tradition.  That tradition has consisted of tremendous athletes, conscientious scholars and women of great character.

Please join me in supporting the next generation of dedicated coaches including Coach Johnson, Coach Harris and Coach Gallamore.  These young professionals are committed to the Volleychief program and the overall success of the young women who make up the Volleychief teams.  I am most proud of the fact that these coaches are dedicated to these women as people as well as players.  I truly believe the women who come out of the Volleychief program are second to none in overall character.

Kickapoo at Glendale -- In Memory of the Lamberts

McKinley's mom tapped me on the shoulder tonight and told me how much she appreciated us honoring her daughter. She started crying and I gave her the biggest hug on behalf of all of us. Volleychief family, your caring hearts are next to none.

It was also Glendale's Pink Out Night and they presented Coach Downs with this lovely pink bouquet inside of a pink volleyball!

Adventures of Team Camp

The girls have completed team camps and are hopefully getting ready to enjoy their two weeks off before season!

First up in July was Varsity at MU Camp! Eat, play, eat, play, eat, play. That was it! Gotta love cafeteria food, dorm life, and long walks to and from the gym in 98 degree heat! The girls had a great camp, competed, bonded and got better on the court. The coaches might have even figured out a line up...maybe!

Next up, the freshmen and JV traveled to Branson for the Licking camp...along with 93 other teams! We both played up a division and competed well. The incoming freshmen showed a ton of intensity throughout the whole weekend...the coaches were very impressed! Huge thanks to the parents for their support and transportation all over Branson, Hollister an Spokane!

D-D-D-Defense

The girls participated in the annual defensive clinic early in July. This year we brought back one of our own, Coach Lauren Gavin. Coach Gavin is currently the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Tyler Texas Junior College. Coach Gavin brought intensity, skill and difficulty to the girls game. We appreciate her taking the time to help make the Volleychiefs better!

Defensive Clinic

The defensive clinic will be Tuesday and Wednesday, July 10th and 11th in the Kickapoo Gym. It is $35 per player and a waiver needs to be signed. You may pay with cash or checks can be written to Lauren Gavin. Players will register and pay the first day of clinic. All incoming freshmen will attend from 9-11am and all other players will go from 11am-1pm.

Youth Camps 2012

Another year of youth camps have been successfully completed! We hosted 54 campers that will be going into 3rd-8th grade.

VolleyPooLooza DATE CHANGE

We have been informed, Due to a MSHSAA rule, our girls are unable to pay and/or participate in a fundraiser DURING the school year. Our options were to cancel or reschedule. Violation of this rule would make our players Ineligible for the upcoming season. 

We will host VolleyPooLooza on May 23rd (last day of school) from 3pm--until it's over. Starting at 3 will allow us to, hopefully, be done around 8 or 9pm. The girls will be dismissed from school at 1pm and should have time to go get snacks and set up the courts to get everything started by 3pm.

It is our hope that this date change is not an inconvenience. We ask that you inform all team members of this date/time change ASAP and encourage them to still participate. Who knows, maybe even more people can play now?!?!  

We appreciate your support in continuing to make this event successful!  Our sponsorships and teams that we have committed have us off to a great start!
